I spent a weekend in Reno, coming to a quick realization that they’ve been keeping up with the times. The trip was rather uneventful overall, spent experimenting with different vegetarian restaurants and the many local, unique coffee shops. Here are the few spots that left an impression.

After grabbing lunch, we took a stroll around downtown Reno and came across the most neat Record and (mostly) Book store. From the front steps, you can tell that this was once a decent size mansion. Entering the building is much like stepping into the haunted bookstore of your dreams. There is a creek with every step and there are used and rare books around every corner. I’ll be seeing you again, Sundance.

Known locally as TLC (immediately catching my attention), The Loving Cup is a coffee shop by day and a local hangout spot by night. The decor stole my heart with mid-nineteenth century tin ceilings and a “palm wall”. The place also features booths, an outdoor area, dance floor and shitty DJ to have a couple drinks with, consider my expectations reached.
How we ended up here, I couldn’t tell you. But a solid retro bar with creative cocktails, great beer selection, a massive dance floor and much better music, I’d say St. James Infirmary is the place to be on a Saturday night in Reno.
In the years to come, I may give Reno a second chance due to what potential the city holds but at this point in time I would have rather spent some time visiting Austin, TX. Now enjoy a favorite mix from O Brother, Where Art Thou?
